British frigates destroy Rigaud’s flotilla in Carcasse bay

Haitian

In April 1796, General André Rigaud had gathered in the bay of Carcasse, situated on the left on entering Tiburon, a flotilla loaded with munitions of war and provisions that was to follow his army to Jérémie, hugging the shore. At the moment when it was about to gain the open sea, the English frigates the Magicienne, the Regulus and the Fortune attacked the republican barges and destroyed them after a fight that lasted more than an hour (24 April). Rigaud found himself compelled to return to Tiburon.

Rouzier tells this under the entry Carcasse.
