Boyer-Bazelais is killed at Miragoâne and the Liberal insurrection collapses

Charles Jean Pierre Boyer-Bazelais died at Miragoâne on 27 October 1883. Born in Port-au-Prince on 24 May 1833, he had been aide-de-camp to President Geffrard, then a lawyer, a deputy, and founder and chief of Haiti’s Liberal Party. He landed at Miragoâne on 27 March 1883 with exiled Liberals from Cuba and Jamaica and fought Salomon’s troops for more than six months. His death ended it; the rebels capitulated.
