Boisrond-Canal, three times president of Haiti, is born at Les Cayes

Pierre Theoma Boisrond-Canal was born on 12 June 1832 at Les Cayes. He served as an officer under Fabre Geffrard from 1858 to 1867, then quit the army to farm. Elected senator in Port-au-Prince in 1870, he was hunted during the riots of May 1875 and hid for five months in the house of Ebenezer Bassett, the first Black minister the United States ever sent to Haiti. He took the presidency three times: 1876 to 1879, a few months in 1888, and again in 1902. He died on 6 March 1905.
