Anténor Firmin is born at Cap-Haïtien

Joseph Auguste Anténor Firmin was born at Cap-Haïtien on 18 October 1850. In 1885 he published De l’égalité des races humaines, a direct answer to Gobineau’s racial theories, and became a member of the Paris Society of Anthropology. He served as Haiti’s minister of finance, of commerce and of foreign relations. He died in exile on St. Thomas on 19 September 1911.
