An earthquake shakes the North and brings down the church at Port-de-Paix

On 23 September 1887 an earthquake ran through the northern region, from Môle Saint-Nicolas to Fort-Liberté, and destroyed the church at Port-de-Paix. A government notice in Le Moniteur of 6 October counted 126 houses destroyed at Môle Saint-Nicolas, cracked houses at Port-de-Paix, and losses at Limbé and Grande Rivière du Nord. Lysius Salomon was president.
