Adoption of the Haitian flag under a fig tree at Mérotte

Haitian

It is affirmed that the ceremony of the adoption of the Haitian flag took place on Monday 18 May 1803, under a fig tree on this habitation. The fig tree still lives near a bridge on the road from l’Arcahaie to Saint Marc.

Rouzier tells this under the entry MÉROTTE.
