Adet made the report on urgency to the Tribunate on the bill restoring enslavement in the colonies, which passed by fifty-four votes to twenty-seven, and the Legislative Body opened its debate on 30 floréal (20 May).

Be that as it may, the bill for the reestablishment of slavery, drawn up with marvelous skill, was laid before the Tribunate, over which M. Chabot presided. It was M. Adet who, in the session of 29 floréal (19 May), made the report on urgency. Now, note that this Adet, former minister of the Republic to the United States, had more than once there foiled the counter-revolutionary schemes of the colonial faction. The decree passed by a majority of fifty-four votes against twenty-seven. Referred to the Legislative Body, the discussion opened on the following day, 30 floréal (20 May). Rabaut the younger presided over the servile senate. The first orator who made himself heard was the one from the Tribunate, citizen Joubert.
