1837: Insurrection aboard the Temerário, bound for Freetown (voyage 2547)

On a slaving voyage that ended at Freetown in 1837, the people aboard the Temerário rose against the crew. They had been taken at Bonny.

The record gives the numbers as: 352 people were embarked; 254 were landed; 98 died on the crossing.

Captain: Fonseca, Camilo Urbano da. Flag: Portugal / Brazil. Recorded outcome, in the database’s words: “court of Mixed Commission, Sierra Leone, condemned.”
