1836: Insurrection aboard the Veloz, bound for Freetown (voyage 3068)

On a slaving voyage that ended at Freetown in 1836, the people aboard the Veloz rose against the crew. They had been taken at Lagos, Onim.

The record gives the numbers as: 526 people were embarked; 469 were landed; 63 died on the crossing.

Captain: Soares, João Nunes. Flag: Portugal / Brazil. Recorded outcome, in the database’s words: “court of Mixed Commission, Sierra Leone, condemned.”
