1773: Insurrection aboard the Jeune Louis, bound for Saint-Domingue (voyage 32269)

African

On a slaving voyage that ended at Saint-Domingue in 1773, the people aboard the Jeune Louis rose against the crew. They had been taken at Sierra Leone estuary.

The record gives the numbers as: 41 people were embarked; 37 were landed.

Captain: Saint-Pé, David. Flag: France. Recorded outcome, in the database’s words: “voyage completed as intended.”

Resistance is recorded only where a surviving document mentions it. The 571 such acts in the record are a floor. Silence in that column is silence in the archive. It says nothing about calm on the ship.
