1769: Insurrection aboard the Roy Morba, bound for Saint-Marc (voyage 30898)

African

On a slaving voyage that ended at Saint-Marc in 1769, the people aboard the Roy Morba rose against the crew. They had been taken at Sierra Leone estuary.

The record gives the numbers as: 93 people were embarked; 68 were landed; 20 died on the crossing.

Captain: Doutran, Adrien. Flag: France. Recorded outcome, in the database’s words: “condemned – unspecified.”

Resistance is recorded only where a surviving document mentions it. The 571 such acts in the record are a floor. Silence in that column is silence in the archive. It says nothing about calm on the ship.
