1767-Jan.-16: The slave ship L’Arada from La Rochelle arrived at the port of Les Cayes under the command of Captain Massé.

1767-Jan.-16: The slave ship L’Arada from La Rochelle arrived at the port of Les Cayes under the command of Captain Massé. The vessel originated from the Gold Coast and successfully delivered 220 African captives to the Southern Province. This arrival followed that of L’Intelligence, another La Rochelle vessel which had reached the same port the previous day. Such maritime logs provided the commercial infrastructure for the expansion of the plantation system in the colony’s southern coastal plains.
