1767-Jan.-14: Two individuals were reported as runaways from the Perreau plantation located in the Dondon district. Manuel, a 40-year-old man of the Congo nation, was identified by a brand of the letter “P.” He fled alongside Jean-Pierre, a 13-year-old Creole boy who bore no brand marks. Their owner, Madame Perreau, requested that anyone recognizing them facilitate their arrest through local merchant channels. This notice highlights that resistance through marronnage involved individuals of varying ages and backgrounds, from seasoned African-born men to young colonial-born children.
