1767-Jan.-14: The origins of the “Fête de la Rose” in Salancy were detailed, tracing the tradition back to St. Medard in the early sixth century. During the reign of Louis XIII, the King was invited to the ceremony but could not attend due to illness, sending the Marquis de Gordes in his stead. The King provided a blue ribbon and a gold ring for the virtuous “Rosière,” a tradition that dictated the ceremonial dress for the winner and her companions. This festival served as a public crowning of virtue and remained a significant cultural reference in French society.
