1767-Jan.-14: In Fort-Dauphin, a diverse group of four enslaved men was reported in the runaway registries, including a man of the Nago nation named Pierre. Other fugitives included Adrien, branded “GARAT,” and a Creole-born man named Jacques who belonged to a resident of Limbé. The inclusion of a “Nago” individual highlights the presence of captives from the Bight of Benin in the colony’s northern plains. These lists confirm that marronnage crossed all ethnic and generational boundaries within the enslaved population.
