1767-Jan.-08: The merchant vessel Les Bons-Amis, originating from Nantes and led by Captain Guichard, attempted to depart Port-au-Prince for France. The ship was forced to return to the harbor after suffering a broken rudder shortly after its initial departure. Such maritime accidents frequently delayed the export of sugar and other colonial commodities to metropolitan markets. The vessel had previously entered the port as a relief arrival on December 31st before attempting this failed exit.
