1767-Jan.-07: Significant renovations were carried out at the Palace of Versailles to repair monuments and enhance the royal gardens. Workers removed a heavy dome that had overburdened the chapel’s vault and substituted it with lighter, more architecturally appropriate ornaments. The palace’s bronze and marble statues were cleaned, and the large water basins near the terrace were completely rebuilt. Furthermore, a magnificent new theater was completed, adding a prestigious venue for spectacle that had been missing from the castle.
