1767-Jan.-07: A violent duel occurred in the Bois de Boulogne between two members of the King’s Bodyguards, sparking a significant legal case in France. One guard attacked his opponent with a sword before he could defend himself and then used a deceptive trick to shoot him in the face with a pistol. Despite being twice wounded, the victim managed to overpower and disarm his assailant until the authorities arrived. The Tribunal of the Marshals of France eventually judged the attacker insane and condemned him to life imprisonment in a psychiatric facility.
