1767-Feb.-14 (approx.): The slaving vessel Le Duc-de-Praslin arrived at Cap-Français from the Gold Coast under the command of Captain Hamonais. Captain Hamonais had assumed leadership of the ship following the death of the original commander, M. Morelon, during the voyage. The ship delivered a “very fine cargo of Blacks” to be sold by the merchant M. Aubert starting the following Saturday. This shipment provided a fresh supply of forced labor for the expansion of the northern sugar and coffee plantations.
