1767: A rising planned aboard the Enigheid, bound for Suriname (voyage 10544)
African
On a slaving voyage that ended at Suriname in 1767, the people aboard the Enigheid planned a rising that the crew discovered before it broke. They had been taken at Malembo.
The record gives the numbers as: 315 people were embarked; 266 were landed; 49 died on the crossing.
Captain: Molder, Willem de. Flag: Netherlands. Recorded outcome, in the database’s words: “shipwrecked or destroyed, after disembarkation.”
Resistance is recorded only where a surviving document mentions it. The 571 such acts in the record are a floor. Silence in that column is silence in the archive. It says nothing about calm on the ship.
