1766-Dec.-20: Commodity prices from Guadeloupe were published in the gazette, showing that top-quality sugar was valued between 54 and 55 livres. Secondary grades of sugar sold for 48 to 53 livres, while the common variety fetched 27 to 34 livres. Coffee in the neighboring colony was priced at 18 to 19 sous, and cotton was recorded at 200 livres. These regional market updates allowed Saint-Domingue planters to compare their own production value against other French Caribbean territories.
