1766-Dec.-18: The vessel La Frefette, originating from Bayonne and under the command of Captain Lafargue, arrived at the port of Les Cayes after sailing from Bordeaux. This arrival was part of the regular maritime traffic connecting the French metropole to the Southern Province of Saint-Domingue. The local gazette meticulously recorded such arrivals to keep merchants and planters informed of incoming goods and communications. Les Cayes functioned as a vital trade hub for the southern coastal region of the colony.
