1765: Attack from shore on the Fanny, bound for Kingston (voyage 91198)

African

On a slaving voyage that ended at Kingston in 1765, the Fanny was attacked from the shore. The people aboard had been taken at Bight of Benin.

The record gives the numbers as: 170 people were embarked; 151 were landed.

Captain: Mitchell, Robert. Flag: Great Britain. Recorded outcome, in the database’s words: “cut off by Africans from shore. Recaptured and landed slaves in Americas.”

Resistance is recorded only where a surviving document mentions it. The 571 such acts in the record are a floor. Silence in that column is silence in the archive. It says nothing about calm on the ship.
