1752: Insurrection aboard the Two Friends, bound for Charleston (voyage 36156)

African

On a slaving voyage that ended at Charleston in 1752, the people aboard the Two Friends rose against the crew. They had been taken at Anomabu, Adja, Agga.

The record gives the numbers as: 71 people were embarked; 60 were landed.

Captain: Hammett, Abraham. Flag: USA. Recorded outcome, in the database’s words: “sold slaves in Americas – subsequent fate unknown.”

Resistance is recorded only where a surviving document mentions it. The 571 such acts in the record are a floor. Silence in that column is silence in the archive. It says nothing about calm on the ship.
