1752: Insurrection aboard the Sauveur, bound for Martinique (voyage 33184)

African

On a slaving voyage that ended at Martinique in 1752, the people aboard the Sauveur rose against the crew. They had been taken at a port the record does not name.

The record gives the numbers as: 232 people were embarked; 214 were landed; 18 died on the crossing.

Captain: Gardon Dubournay, Joseph. Flag: France. Recorded outcome, in the database’s words: “voyage completed as intended.”

Resistance is recorded only where a surviving document mentions it. The 571 such acts in the record are a floor. Silence in that column is silence in the archive. It says nothing about calm on the ship.
