De l'interrogatoire des prévenus

Criminal Procedure
Titre II: De la procédure criminelle (On Criminal Procedure)
Chapitre IV: De l'interrogatoire des prévenus (On the Interrogation of the Accused)

Avant de commencer l'interrogatoire, le juge d'instruction fera prêter à l'accusé le serment de dire la vérité ; et il en sera fait mention, à peine de nullité.

Life lesson: The accused must be sworn to tell the truth before any questioning begins, and the oath must be recorded — skipping this step voids the entire interrogation.
Notes: Mandatory oath for accused: serment de dire la vérité. Pre-interrogation requirement. Nullité sanction for omission. Mention in record mandatory. Contrast with modern right against self-incrimination — inquisitorial model compels sworn testimony from accused. Significant difference from common law tradition.
