Si l'épaisseur du mur mitoyen n'est pas suffisante pour supporter l'exhaussement, celui qui veut l'exhausser, doit le faire reconstruire entièrement à ses propres frais, et l'on extraira de son côté la quantité de terrain devant former l'excédant de l'épaisseur.

Life lesson: If the wall is too thin to bear the raising, you must rebuild it entirely at your cost — and the extra thickness comes from your own land. The neighbor gives nothing.
Notes: Insufficient wall thickness for raising: rebuilder bears entire reconstruction cost. Additional thickness taken exclusively from raiser's land. Neighbor's land not diminished. Cf. Code Napoléon Art. 659.
