Tous ceux qui ont droit à un mur mitoyen, sont obligés de contribuer en proportion du droit de chacun d'eux, à sa réparation et à sa reconstruction, cependant tout copropriétaire d'un mur mitoyen sur lequel ne sera pas appuyé un bâtiment lui appartenant, pourra se dispenser de concourir à ses réparations et reconstructions, pourvu qu'il renonce à son droit de mitoyenneté.

Life lesson: Co-owners of a party wall share repair costs proportionally. But if your building does not lean on the wall, you may walk away — by renouncing your co-ownership entirely.
