Dispositions générales

Civil Administration
Titre III: Des Actes de l'État civil (On Civil Status Records)
Chapitre I: Dispositions générales (General Provisions)

Les parties comparantes et le lieutenant de juge signeront, après la lecture, chaque acte sur les trois registres ; et si elles déclarent ne savoir signer, mention en sera faite.

Life lesson: The mark of a just system is not that all can write — it is that none are excluded for not being able to.
Notes: Signature requirement across all three registers, with provision for illiterate parties — their inability to sign is noted rather than used as grounds for exclusion. Reflects the reality of a largely illiterate post-revolutionary population.
