Contract Law
Titre XXIX: Des Transactions (On Settlements)

Les poursuites d'un délit, par le ministère public, n'ôtent pas le droit de transiger sur l'intérêt civil résultant du délit.

Life lesson: Even if the state is prosecuting a crime, the victim can still settle the civil damages separately.
Notes: Criminal prosecution ≠ bar to civil settlement. Civil interest (damages) remains freely settleable despite ongoing criminal proceedings.
