Paul, Congo, âgé de 28 à 30 ans, rougeâtre de peau, étampé illisiblement sur le sein droit, a ce qu'on croit, du nom de ROGIER ou ROGER, nom d'un de ses anciens maîtres, est parti marron le 17 octobre 1788, de l'habitation Marin sur l'Ile de la Tortue, où il avait enlevé, de concert avec six autres Nègres, un canot à la Pointe aux Oiseaux de ladite Ile, & était passé à St-Domingue sur l'habitation de M. Lavaud, près le Port de Paix, où ils furent arrêtés, à l'exception dudit Paul qui s'échappa. On le croit aux environs de Saint-Louis, ayant travaillé de son métier de charpentier dans ce quartier, dans ceux du Cap, ou au Cap même; ledit nègre Paul fait partie d'une ferme de six Nègres que le sieur Marin tient des héritiers de M. de Jaunas, ayant vécu commissaire de la Marine au Cap : en donner des nouvelles à Mrs de Russy, Potier & compagnie, rue Penthièvre, ou audit sieur Marin sur son habitation dans l'Ile de la Tortue, par le Port de Paix.

Paul, Congo, 28 to 30 years old, reddish-complexioned, branded illegibly on the right breast, as is believed, with the name ROGIER or ROGER, the name of one of his former masters, ran away as a maroon on the 17th of October 1788, from Marin plantation on the Island of Tortuga, where he had stolen, in concert with six other Negroes, a canoe at Pointe aux Oiseaux of said Island, and had crossed to Saint-Domingue to the plantation of M. Lavaud, near the Port of Peace, where they were arrested, with the exception of the said Paul who escaped. He is believed to be in the environs of Saint-Louis, having worked at his trade of carpenter in this district, in those of the Cape, or at the Cape itself; said Negro Paul is part of a group of six Negroes that Sieur Marin holds from the heirs of M. de Jaunas, who lived as commissioner of the Marine at the Cape: anyone with news should inform Messrs de Russy, Potier & company, rue Penthièvre, or the said Sieur Marin at his plantation on the Island of Tortuga, by way of Port of Peace.
