Uprising at Castel Père against the provisional government
Haitian
CASTEL PÈRE. On 31 July 1843 an armed uprising broke out on this habitation against the provisional government, paid for by Salomon père Etienne. The conspirators said that it was intended to make them slaves again, to take from them their bit of land and to give the right of property to the whites. The national guards of the Cayes, of Torbeck, of Cavaillon and of Port Salut and the 12th regiment marched against them. On 1 August they were attacked; a great number were wounded and two killed. The conspirators broke camp, fleeing toward the dry ravine.
Rouzier tells this under the entry CASTEL PÈRE.
