Toussaint sets up a battery on the Diamant against the English and is injured
Haitian
On 5 October 1794 Toussaint-Louverture established a battery there against the English who occupied the town. He worked himself with his soldiers to haul up a piece of cannon which, in falling, crushed several of his fingers. Being no longer able to direct operations, he put three of his lieutenants in charge of them and withdrew to three lieues from Saint-Marc. The English assailed the morne Diamant and the fort Bélair, drove the republicans from them, and came to attack Toussaint’s headquarters.
Rouzier tells this under the entry Diamant (le).
