Toussaint-Louverture’s army enters Saint-Marc
Haitian
On 6 September 1794, the army of Toussaint-Louverture entered Saint-Marc through the Guêpes gate. The English held the town. Brisbane, their commander, taken by surprise, had only time to withdraw to Fort-Libre. The next day, while the besiegers were pillaging the town, an English frigate moored opposite the Guêpes and bombarded them. Toussaint then beat a retreat.
Rouzier tells this under the entry Guêpes (les).
