Toussaint entered Santo-Domingo by force and had the flag of the Republic raised there.

Thus the last shadow of authority that France cast over the colony had just vanished (1). Toussaint at once directed his army against Santo-Domingo; he entered it by force on 7 pluviôse (27 January 1801), and had the flag of the Republic raised there.
