Toussaint entered Port-au-Prince in the afternoon and met Laplume and Pétion for the first time.

Haitian

Toussaint entered Saint-Marc on 19 floréal (8 May), Arcahaye on the 23rd (12 May), Croix-des-Bouquets on the 25th (14 May), and on the same day, in the afternoon, Port-au-Prince (2). Laplume and Pétion went to salute him: it was the first time he had seen these two officers. He had originally destined the command of the district for Laplume, that of the town for Pétion. But an order of the day, published by Laplume at the camp of La Coupe, of which the English had complained, caused these commands to be given to Huin and to Christophe Morney (3). Soon some brawls arose between the legionnaires and the troops of the North. Laplume and Pétion were ordered to return to Léogane (4).
