The Senate installed itself under the presidency of César Télémaque.
Haitian
On 31 December the Senate installed itself under the presidency of César-Télémaque. Never did a deliberative assembly make a worthier choice: Télémaque possessed in the highest degree the calm of intelligence and the courage of soul that are needed in the midst of civil troubles. The Senate sent Lys, one of its members, then a battalion commander of artillery, to sound the alarm in the South; then it declared itself in permanent session. On the same day the Constituent Assembly, having finished its labors, closed its sittings. Those of its members who belonged to the army went to join Pétion.
