The schooner Constitution, under Derenoncourt, is blown up by her own commander when Christophe’s ships are about to take her; Lamarre had left the ship shortly before.

Haitian

A war schooner, the *Constitution*, commanded by Derenoncourt, which the President of Haiti had sent to carry munitions to the army of the Môle, was, on 2 February, attacked by a division of Christophe’s fleet, composed of the brig *l’Avant-Garde* and the schooners *la Province-du-Nord* and *le Foudroyant*, under the supreme command of an officer of the English navy, Captain Cullogh, of whom Antoine Parisien was the lieutenant (1). The combat lasted two hours. Seeing himself on the point of being taken, Derenoncourt set fire to the powder and entombed himself in the bosom of the Ocean with the remains of his schooner.
