The King issues four additions to the Laws of Burgos at Valladolid
… Of whom I was always sure that they did not add this last pretending any gain, but that those who did pretend it, informed and persuaded, perhaps with good purpose, though I do not believe it, persuaded them to it. Of this last junta and of the four additions that were made in it, the said holy man and Father Fray Pedro was the cause; of the last, not by thought, the cause were those who, as I said, brought their circumlocutions to have it put. Then the King, being presented the five aforesaid additions, which these last consultors offered him, commanded them to be authorized and promulgated as laws, except the fifth, although the learned men had instituted it, unless it was because it was feared that, to the favorites who afterward held Indians in repartimiento, it would perhaps be imputed as a roundabout thing and not very honest. These four laws were called declaration and moderation of the ordinances made, and were promulgated at Valladolid, on the 28th of July of the year 1513, and were printed in type.
