The Council of State proclaims Henri Christophe king of the North

On 28 March 1811 the Council of State, sitting at Cap-Henri, adopted a royal constitution turning the northern state into a hereditary monarchy and naming Henri Christophe king. The act was signed by Paul Romain as dean, with Andre Vernet, Toussaint Brave, Jean-Philippe Daux, Martial Besse, Jean-Pierre Richard, Jean Fleury, Jean-Baptiste Juge, and Etienne Magny as secretary. Christophe was crowned on 2 June 1811 by Archbishop Jean-Baptiste-Joseph Brelle. Haiti now had a king in the North and a republic in the West, a split that lasted until Christophe shot himself in 1820.
