The Constitution of 1950 opens the ballot box to Haitian women

The Constitution of 1950 was promulgated on 25 November 1950 under President Paul Eugene Magloire. It was the most progressive charter Haiti had written to that point, and it admitted women to the vote for the first time. Haitian women cast their first ballots in the elections of 1957. That was the same vote that put Francois Duvalier in the palace. The 1950 charter stayed in force until he replaced it in December 1957.
