Sonthonax raised Pétion to the rank of adjutant-general.

Who had given him a higher rank. It was Sonthonax who, on 1 prairial, Year V (20 May 1797), raised Pétion to the rank of adjutant-general (2); the First of the Blacks had no part in it.
