Serge Legagneur, poet of Haiti Litteraire, dies in Montreal

Serge Legagneur died of cancer in Montreal on 30 June 2017, at eighty. He was born at Jeremie on 10 January 1937, in the town they call the city of poets. He was a founder of Haiti Litteraire and ran the review Semences in 1962, which lasted four issues and printed Davertige, Morisseau, Phelps and Philoctete. He left for Montreal in 1965 to get out from under Duvalier. There he shared an apartment at Carre Saint-Louis with Morisseau and Phelps and ran the Lundis du Perchoir d’Haiti, the first place Haitian and Quebecois poets met each other; Gaston Miron named that group Bateche batouque.
