Salnave’s insurrection begins at Ouanaminthe
Haitian
On 15 May 1865, at 2 o’clock in the afternoon, the partisans of Salnave, coming from the Cap and marching on Gonaives, attacked at Puilboreau the division of General Morisset, who routed them and took from them a cannon, rifles and prisoners. This encounter was the first of that cruel civil war which brought about the siege of the Cap and the bombardment of that town by the English. It will be remembered that Salnave’s insurrection was born on 7 May at Ouanaminthe.
Rouzier tells this under the entry PUILBOREAU.
