Salnave took up arms at Ouanaminthe against Geffrard and arrested the commandant

Haitian

On 7 May 1865 Salnave took up arms there against President Geffrard and arrested the commandant. The insurrection spread rapidly to Fort-Liberté, to Trou, to Cap-Haitien and throughout the North and the North-West. However, General Andrieux, aided by Colonel Robert Noël, brought about a reaction there in favor of President Geffrard, whose troops entered the town. These two officers were the first Cacos, in 1867, from the arrival of Salnave from exile after the departure of Geffrard, because of the persecution of which they were the object at the hands of Salnave.

Rouzier tells this under the entry OUANAMINTHE.
