Rosalie Bosquet takes the highest rank in the militia

Rosalie Bosquet, known to Haitians as Madame Max Adolphe, commanded the Fort-Dimanche contingent in Port-au-Prince from 1964 to 1971. That prison was the worst in the political network of the regime and people called it Fort-la-Mort. On 29 July 1976, the official anniversary of the militia, she was promoted Superviseure generale of the Volunteers of National Security, which made her the highest ranking member of the corps. She also sat as a deputy in the legislative chamber. Another woman, Sanette Balmir, ran the Grande Anse in the south and gave orders to the military authorities, the courts, the chamber and several ministries. Women in the militia carried a different name from the men. They were called Fiyet-Lalo, after the female werewolves of Haitian belief who eat children, which turned their violence into something supernatural and accidental. In August 2010 a public library in Mirebalais was named after Rosalie Bosquet.
