Rochelois lighthouse first shows its light

Haitian

In 1919 the lighthouse of Fort Ilet at Port-au-Prince was dismantled and transported to the banks of the Rochelois, dangerous to ships. On Wednesday 19 October 1921, President Dartiguenave left Port-au-Prince to go and lay the first stone of this lighthouse. On 11 February 1922 this lighthouse cast its white fires. Latitude 18 38 53 North, Longitude: 73 12 22 West. The projection lasts 3 seconds and is visible at 9 miles’ distance. The elevation of the projected light above the sea is 30 feet.

Rouzier tells this under the entry ROCHELOIS (les).
