Rochambeau embarked, leaving more than 800 sick in the hospitals.
Haitian
It was under the auspices of so many and such fair promises that Rochambeau embarked, on 7 frimaire (29 November), leaving more than 800 sick in the hospitals, and that a great number of families resolved not to abandon the soil that had seen them born. Alas! a few days later the wretched invalids were dragged to the shore, pitilessly massacred, their corpses thrown into the waves! A few months later the wretched families were likewise odiously massacred without distinction of sex or age!
