Rigaud, summoned from Tiburon 25 leagues away, reached Les Cayes on 31 August; before his arrival whites had been murdered, among them Édouard, Lilladam and Arnaud Pretty, the work of Lefranc and Augustin Rigaud, while Desfourneaux and Rey fled by canoe to the Île-à-Vaches and then to Le Cap.
