Rigaud attacks Dessalines and Faubert occupies Grand-Goâve

Haitian

On the morning of 15 August he began the attack; 1,400 men of the South had seen 10,000 of the North flee. Faubert occupied Grand Goâve, which Dessalines had abandoned. But Rigaud ordered Faubert to return to Thauzin, where his army was assembled, and he left for the Cayes, where his pleasures were always calling him. Dessalines came back to reoccupy Grand-Goâve. He had pieces of artillery brought from Léogane and regularly besieged the entrenchment of Thauzin, which he cannonaded with vigor. From the next day famine made itself felt at Thauzin. The barges of the South, commanded by Panayoty, unable to contend with the large warships of the Republic, ceased to supply Rigaud’s army. Toussaint sent ships to blockade the Cayes; they were captured by the English.

Rouzier tells this under the entry THAUZIN ou TOSIN.
